Beauty | Skincare Routine

Hello! Hello! Hello!

Hope y’all had an amazing weekend. Mine was just spent under my blanket on the couch with some good novels.

Today I wanted to show you my skincare routine and the products I use to keep my skin feeling good. And since I started wearing make up, having a clear, hydrated base just makes your make up glide on smoothly and look amazing.

My skin is just as confused as my hair, it dictates the terms, but hey, it works for me. My only problem area is my forehead, but it’s not so major that a little TLC can’t solve. Plus the fact that I have beauty spots, scars and chicken pox spots all over my face, I don’t both cause I love having spots. Hahaha,I know I’m weird.

*Daily Use;
-Johnson’s Face Care Daily Essentials Oil Balancing Gel Wash.
-Johnson’s Daily Essentials 24 hour hydrating cream.

Natural Hair | ACV Rinse

Hello! Hello! Hello!

When it comes to wash day I tend to hold it of as long as possible. There are so many times I’ve gone weeks without washing ’cause I’m just too lazy. And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.

Finding the right products and routine that works for you is key and it took me a while to find it. If you’ve read my previous post here  you’d know it would take me 5 hours from detangling to styling. But I’m proud to say that it now takes me about 2 hours to wash and style (depending on the style though).

I discovered Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse some time early last year, while still newly natural, but the routine I found was to shampoo first then rinse with ACV and I was just not having it. I do enjoy long showers, but that was too much.
Fast forward 6 months later, some time in August, I went back to ACV and how I incorporate it into my routine is to add it as my detangler.

Wash day for me now consists of me detangling and finger detangling my hair as I add the ACV mixture into my hair. I let it sit for about 30 minutes and after that I just condition and deep condition as usual.
Adding this to my routine has shortened my wash day and made my hair much more healthier and better to the point I can go 2 weeks without washing it and it is just as moisturised as day one. (Don’t judge though, I’m still lazy when it comes to wash day hahaha)

ACV Recipe;
* 3 parts water.
* 1 part ACV
* 10 drops essential oil. (I love me some eucalyptus oil)
-Mix it all up in your spray bottle and you are good to go (and again, don’t judge my make shift spray bottle, I did buy a new cute one that I’ll show you)
***I got all products from Nakumatt.

ACV Benefits;

*Balances scalp and hair pH – Our hair has a pH of about 4 to 5 and if you remember your chemistry lessons, that means our hair is acidic. Raw apple cider vinegar is alkaline in nature so it helps balance out our hair (creates an equilibrium/who knew I’d ever use chemistry when it came to hair) and remove build up without striping the hair of it’s natural oils.
*Seals the hair cuticles – ACV helps seal our hair cuticles for that shiny, glossy look. This is achieved when light reflects of the hair when the cuticles are sealed.
*Treats dandruff, dry and itchy scalp – I suffer from an itchy scalp on and off (read as forgetting to oil my scalp) and ACV has actually helped due to it’s antibacterial and anti fungal properties.
*Promotes hair growth – On the same lines as it’s antibacterial properties, ACV helps unclog hair follicles that are clogged by bacterial infection which will inturn promote hair growth. Also massaging it in before you rinse it off, helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp which means hair growth.

And there you have it, hope this long post helped out. And if you try the ACV rinse, do let me know if it works for you.

Finding Yourself

Hope you haven’t forgotten about me.

It has been about 5 months and I think it’s safe to say that I am back. Taking time off and just stepping away from everything was one of the best things I could have done for myself. I had began to feel as though I was drowning from everything and everyone around me. I felt drained day in and day out and I just had to escape from that reality.

Everything was slowly falling apart and I needed to find a way to fix it before I lost who I was as a person. Trying to please everyone just eats you up and you forget who you are. I was in a situation where I was letting everyone dictate to me what I should be doing and how I should be going about it. Home felt like the last place I wanted to be ’cause it was just cold.

When life hits, it hits you so hard you break inside. I closed myself off from the world because experience has taught me that you have to deal with you before you can deal with others. I usually receive this comment. ‘You are doing psychology, I’m sure you solve your own problems.’ Excuse me, but we to are human so we do need a shoulder once in a while. I vented, I cursed at the world, I cried, punched a few walls and even wrote letters that I read out loud. And in doing all this, I released so much pain a weight started to lift off my shoulder.

I began to find myself again and connect with who I am and what I was created for. It took a lot in me to accept that life is always going to throw the worst of the worst at you, you just need to know that you are fully equipped to handle everything.

I am happier than I was 5 months ago. I do take time to breath and assess every situation and not run into it blindly, crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. With each passing day I am more at peace with myself than the day before.

In the beginning of the year a huge curve ball was thrown at me and with finding myself and learning what I have learnt I was ready to face it. If that is my new path bring it on, but guess what? It was just life saying, ‘gotcha, I was just making sure that you are ready for reality, so just go back to your usual shenanigans.’

And with that I’m back to blogging, vlogging and facing the world with a smile each day.

Life is always going to be there, just remember that you are never alone and you are ready for it.

Beauty | Nail Care Routine + Colour Of The Week

Good Evening!

Happy New Month.

It’s actually more like good night. I was planning on getting this post out a it early, but my nails were not working with me. I had just come out of the shower after almost an hour (I love very long showers) and I had to wait for my nails to dry and regain their colour, you know the white colour on the tips when your nails are long.

I always get a lot of questions about my nails. The most annoying question that I constantly get has to be, if my nails are fake. Like why y’all got to do me like this?

I’ve been growing out my nails since I left high school, about 4 years ago. There is just something about long nails on me that makes me feel good. I remember in high school, after assembly before we would go back to class, the prefects would check if our nails were clipped. I used to dread that, because I hated clipping my nails, but I was a good student, only got caught a few times. Hahaha

A comment I always get from people is that I have good nails because I have good hair. And maybe that’s true, the same material that makes up the hair is the same material that makes up the nails. So yeah, good hair, good nails.

My nail care routine is pretty basic. This is something I’ve been doing for a few years now and It has worked for me.

1. Nail & Cuticle Oil:

Nail & Cuticle Oil – Luron Ksh.110 (Around $1)

Nail and cuticle oil is used to moisturise the cuticles, skin and nail area. I use this daily at night around my cuticles when I’m wearing nail polish. When I remove the polish weekly, I apply it all over my nails and cuticle, rub it in and let it sit in for 30 minutes or so, then wash my hands. I love how it leaves my nails shiny and soft.

2. Nail Hardener:

Nail Hardener – Luron Ksh.110 (Around $1)

Step 2 when I’m not wearing any nail polish is a nail hardener. Which is mostly 3 days out of the 7 days when I remove my nail polish. It helps strengthen the nail by adding a layer on to it which prevents breakage. I used to have brittle nails and after adding this step into my routine, my nails are actually stronger and the longest they have gotten is about 3/4 of an inch.

3. Acetone Free Nail polish Remover.

Acetone Free Nail Polish Remover – Alison’s Ksh. 55 (Around $0.50)

This has to be my holy grail product when it comes to my nail care routine. Acetone is a no no for me just because it dries out my skin and leaves the area around my nails looking nasty. I do not like that.

And there you have it, 3 simple steps for amazing nails. I love taking care of my nails and I love growing them out.

My current nail shape is almond/stiletto. I felt I needed to experiment with a new shape and so far so good, it’s not that bad. For four years I was rocking the square shape and I LOVED IT. If this doesn’t work, I might just go back. hahaha

Last but not least, this weeks nail colour:

Nude – Golden Rose Paris. Ksh. 260 (About $2)

I do miss painting my nails and doing nail art, so that might just be a new addition. 🙂 🙂

I hope you enjoyed.

Talk to you soon.

DIY lip scrub

Good Morning,  Good Afternoon, Good Evening,
Depending on where you are in the world, I hope you’re having a good time.

I was chatting with a couple of friends of mine and the topic of soft lips came up. I honestly didn’t know how much people neglect their lips. As in come on, that’s one of the first places people look at on your face (or am I the only one who does that) and seeing as first impressions matter, you’d obviously would want people to talk of how good your lips are looking.

Not to pat myself on the back, but I do have soft, good looking lips 😀 which I attribute to a daily lip scrub & constantly moisturizing them.

All you need for the scrub is;
* 1 tablespoon brown sugar.

* 1/2 tablespoon olive oil.

* 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon.

*Mix everything up and gently apply on your lips in circular motions for a few minutes.
*Wipe it off.
*Follow with your favourite lip balm.
P.S; you can tweak the measurements to suit you.

-The brown sugar is used to exfoliate the dry skin.
-The olive oil is used to seal in moisture.
-The cinnamon has various health benefits. You can read all about them here
In the scrub the cinnamon is used to give one fuller lips. The tingly feeling you get when its on your lips will make the blood rush to your lips giving them that nice red colour.

You can also put vaseline and dab a pinch of cinnamon and let it sit for a few minutes. This will give you that full Angelina Jolie pout :-*

I swear by this lip scrub and hey no one wants to be kissing on some dry, chapped lips. Try it out and tell me what you think. I’m 100% sure your partners will love having soft, succulent lips around them. Hahaha

Till next time loves,

Obsessions (1)

Hi Lovely People,

I’ll start with a short story. My sister and I hated make-up when growing up. We had seen so many women looking so bad with make-up that we vowed never to use any, but that vow was broken quite fast.

In my 2nd year of high school I discovered eye shadow and I was excited. Started experimenting with different colours and that’s when I realised that make-up is meant to enhance your features not make you look like a scary clown.

Thank God for YouTube, ’cause I love me some make-up tutorials, they’re fun to watch and I learn some new tips every time.

Though I love make-up, I don’t wear much, all I use is; eye pencil, eye shadow (when I’m feeling girly), mascara and a lipstick/lip balm/lip gloss (depending on my mood).

As the title states, i have a couple of obsession and I’ll be sharing them with you one by one.
Today, I’ll show you my lipstick collection. I started collecting in Sept last year so it is small, but I plan to buy like 2-3 lipsticks a month to add to the collection. 🙂

Hope you enjoy and talk to you soon.

Hugs & Kisses,
